  • 1.  Find Unmanaged Computers

    Posted Dec 21, 2011 11:14 PM

    Hello Community!

    Scenerio:

I am currently trying to find unmanaged or non-installed SEP computers on the network.

I was told Symantec removed the "FInd Unmanged Clients" when we moved from v11 to v12.

    Notes:

I have downloaded and currently looking through the Administraton Guide for Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Network Access Control.

I have found on page 42 the following:

You can perform the following tasks from the Clients tab:

    ■ Add groups, computer accounts, and user accounts.
    ■ Import an Organizational Unit or a Container.
    ■ Import users directly from the Active Directory or an LDAP server.
    ■ Run commands on groups.
    ■ Search for clients.
    ■ Set the display filter for a group.
    ■ Find unmanaged computers.

    Question:

Is the "Find Unmanaged Computers" still avaliable in v12?

    or

Was the "FInd Unmanaged Computers" removed?

I appreciate everyone's time and responses.

    Thanks!

If you are using 12.1 find umanaged computers is now part of the client deployment wizard. This wizard can be accessed from the common tasks drop down menu in the top right hand corner of the home page tab. You will want to select install protection client to computers from this menu.

    it's there with different name

    below information from "Paul Murgatroyd"

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/where-find-unmanaged-computers-sep-121-enterprise-beta

    Hi DaveVe,

With SEP12, we decided to merge the old clientremote tool and Find Unmanaged Computers into one.  The new version is called the Client Deployment Wizard.

You can find it in two places - first from the Home screen, choose "Install Protection Client to Computers" from the "Common Tasks" drop down at the top right, or alternatively, from the Clients tab, when you are in the client list, click "Add a Client" on the left hand side, just above "Add computer account"

Both will launch the CDW and allow you to search your network, find all your PC's and helps you deploy the right client to each one.

Give it a go and let us know what you think!

    thanks

    Thank you ldimple and pete_4u2002,

I will pass along the information.

    Question: Report?

Also, is there away to run a report or schedule a report to run for the unmanaged computers on the network?

    Thanks Again!

To configure a client to detect unauthorized devices

1 In the console, click Clients.

2 Under View Clients, select the group that contains the client that you want

to enable as an unmanaged detector.

3 On the Clients tab, right-click the client that you want to enable as an

unmanaged detector, and then click Enable as Unmanaged Detector.

4 To specify one or more devices to exclude from detection by the unmanaged

    detector, click Configure Unmanaged Detector.

5 In the Unmanaged Detector Exceptions for client name dialog box, click

    Add.

6 In the Add Unmanaged Detector Exception dialog box, click one of the

    following options:

Exclude detection of an IP address range, and then enter the IP address

    range for several devices.

Exclude detection of aMACaddress, and then enter the device's MAC

    address.

    7 Click OK.

    8 Click OK.

To display the list of unauthorized devices that the client detects

1 In the console, click Home.

2 On the Home page, in the Security Status section, click More Details.

3 In the Security Status Details dialog box, scroll to the Unknown Device

    Failures table.
