    Hi!

Last night I tried to upgrade my Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from version 11.0.5 to version 12.1.

The previus 11.0.5 runned flawlessly on the server.

The installation of 12.1 went good, however it fails when configuring the management server. For some reason it cant install the webservice.

I get a Windows popup - "Apache HTTP server has stopped working". In the techinical details I see the event name: APPCRASH and application name: httpd.exe

After the Windows popup the configuration manager reports: Failed to install management server webserver service. You should restart your computer and try again. Done that 3 times.

    The server is a Windows 2008 SP2 64bit.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Is there any other application running on the server which is using Apache services?

Here are the steps to follow:

    1. Go to ...\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Apache\conf\

    2. Open httpd.conf in notepad

    3. Search for Listen 8014(default)

    4. There may be two entries for Listen (as shown below)

    5. Delete these lines

    6. Run a Repair of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from Add/Remove Programs

    If this didn't fix the issue;

    • Go to C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Apache\conf\
    • Move the files httpd.conf , httpd.conf.bak and httpd.conf.new files to some other location
    • Run  a Repair of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from Add/Remove Programs

    Hope that helps!!

What is the port currently used by your SEP 11 clients in IIS? Is it 80 or 8014?

    Thanks for you suggestions, Mithun!

Unfortunately no success. There was only 1 entry in httpd.conf, but either way dod no difference. The only difference is that the Windows popup "...HTTPD has stopped working" didn't show this time around, only the Symantec error: Failed to install management server webserver service. You should restart your computer and try again

    Any more suggestions? :)

Unfortunately I dont have access to any of the clients right now, only the server. But the server is running some other sites on port 80 in IIS, so its properly port 8014.

Can you confirm there is no other application listening on port 8014?

You can use netstat to check it: netstat -anb|Find ":8014"

    netstat reports nothing on 8014.

However, I got some thing on port 8081. It seems to be somthng DExL - apparently related to Symanted as well. There is an old installation of SMSMSE (Mail security). Could this be causing issues all of a sudden?

If so I could try to uninstall SMSMSE.
