Export SEPM reports to CSV or Excel

  • 1.  Export SEPM reports to CSV or Excel

    Posted Mar 02, 2012 06:03 AM

    Hello

I need to pull together different reports within an Excel spreadsheet so that I can deliver weekly security reports to the business however the SEPM will only let me save a report in a MHTML file which is totally useless. Our SEPM is at version 11.0.6200.

Is there a way that I can save the report data into CSV or Excel files?

    Thanks

    Hello,

Its the reports that I want to export, not the logs. for example I want to see the virus definition distribution and how many infected clients we have had within the last month. I literally want the output of what is displayed when a report is run but getting the figures into excel.

Can this be done? From what I have seen the monitors tab is not useful for what i want.

    Hello,

The Reports provided to you in the MHTML file is the data in Pie chart with the other data.

Check this: About the different types of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Reports

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH95538

Incase, you want the data from the same, then in that case, you would have to configure a notification email in terms of Logs.

Making a report in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager that will show client names, IP address, and Client Versions.

    Hope that helps!!

I don't see how that helps to be honest.

Correct me if i am wrong but the 'logs' tab does not provide detailed analysis of things like version distribuion, definition distribution and complience. This cannot be gathered from the logs tab.

I don't mean to sound rude but can people please read and understand my question before posting semi-relevant information? All i need to know is if i can get a report from the reports tab and get the data exported into excel. If it CAN be done then how would i go about it? If not then can someone advise me that it cannot be done.

The information above doesnt tell me how i can get the same information from any of the reports and put them into a CSV or excel.

    Thanks

    Hello,

It surely does provide you all the information, unless you export those logs.

To look at all data for all clients follow these steps:

    1. In the SEPM, click Monitors > Logs.
    2. For Log type: select Computer Status.
    3. Click the View Log button.
    4. Click the Export link at the top of the page. This will open a page of text in a web browser.
Note: you must follow step 4 to see all available information.
    5. In the web browser window, click File > Save As... and save it as a text file.

You can view the raw logs in this text file. However, since it contains comma delimited values, it is easy to import into a spreadsheet program, like Microsoft Excel. Simply change the extension on the file from .txt to .csv, then open it with a spreadsheet program.

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi,

As far as i know, reports cannot be generated in a different format. If you have checked the logs tab and is not helpful, then i do not think there is a way.

NRaj - Thanks for the information. Thats all i needed to know.

Mithun Sanghavi - The method you have described does not tell me what I need to know. How from this information can i determin if a client has had a virus within the last month for example?

I have to say i think its a major problem that the reports cannot be exported in a format that is usable. Very disapointing.

    Hello,

Yes, you can determine if a client has had a virus within the last month.

Yes, Reports cannot be generated in a different format. However, the logs could be generated giving the same results.

    Hope that answers!!

I agree, from monitors potput file, save the report to notepad then transfer it to csv file.

The one question I have for you is why would you want to export a report into a CSV file? The report is already a summary of your data. Or do you not like the format of the report? Does the report not have sufficient data? Do you simply want to create your own page headers?

With that out of the way.

    1. IT Analitics will give you a better insight into your data and you can create your own custom reports instead of relying on the ones provided by Symantec.
    2. IF you have an SQL database, you can always try the free Microsoft Report Builder to create your own reports. See http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=6116 for the download and readme.
    3. To use Excel, have a look at this: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sql-querys-database I generally create a new ODBC / Data connection to the database and paste those query strings in to extract the relevant data.
