I have endpoing protection manager 11 server, with around 450 clients.

I am required to move the server to a new network, which will allow me to use the same name, but a different IP address.

My question is, what is the easiest way to get the 450 clients pointing to the new server.

Some clients are on a 2003 server domain, while some are in a workgroup.

A browse on the clients shows the domain clients can resolve the server name to an IP via DNS, while the non domain clients appear to be using WINS for name resolution. Does the client reference the management server by name? If so, I just update the name resolution servers. If the client references the server by IP, how do I update the clients?

    Hi,

Please refer to the following article: http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/854fa02b4f5013678825731a007d06af/9bb60351f8fa6d3f65257409007f5774?OpenDocument

To answer your question, the SEP clients contact the SEPM using the IP address. So, as long as your client machines are able to contact the new server on the installation port and IP address of the server, the migration should be fine.

    Best,

just make sure, that your DNS resolves the server name to the new IP after all. you can always try and bring it back to the old vlan.

Is there any way to point the clients to a new SEP Manager server IP address AFTER the server has been assigned a new IP?

My SEP server has been moved to a different subnet and now my clients are unable to update definitions because they are still looking for the old SEP Manager server IP.

I read the linked documentation but that does not work for my situation. Any advise greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you do not have your old SEPM any more and the communication link is broken between the SEPM and SEP clients you will need the sylinkreplacer to join the clients back to SEPM
read the pdf included on how to use it.
