    Hi, I'm trying to install SEP 12.1.2 unmanaged client on a fresh installation of Windows Server 2012. I cannot complete setup, I receive a generic 1033 error on eventlog that isn't useful for troubleshooting. I used also SymHelp and it says that Operating system meets the requirements for the installation.

    - Win2012 is a fresh install with all updates and drivers

    - Symantec Endpoint 12.1.2 is also a fresh install

    - UAC is disabled

    - Windows Firewall is disabled

    These are the last lines of SEP_LOG, it seems there's a problem with the validation of the SEP_fileset.xml file:

    HI,

    Try to disabled UAC and windows firewall

    Open the setup file and try to install liveupdate first and then the sep install

    2) If, that does not help, follow the Steps below:

    In the registry,

    Find

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
    value=%APPDATA%

    and change it to

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
    value=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

    Install SEP client again.

    If above registry value is not as written, please make the changes and after changes, reboot the machine and reinstall client.

    Hello,

    Upon checking the logs, we see the below errors:

    IDCCA: SETI::CUploadFile::logout200 OK
    CustomAction checkFileSetInteractive returned actual error code 1602 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
    Action ended 12:19:30: checkFileSetInteractive. Return value 2.
    MSI (c) (08:10) [12:19:30:009]: Doing action: SetupInterrupted

    In other words, 1602 means User cancelled installation.

    I would suggest you to try working on the steps below:

    • Create a folder at the root of the local drive and name it TEMP.
    • Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    • In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
    • Click Environment Variables.
    • Repeat the following steps for both the TEMP and the TMP User variables:
      1. In the User variables list, select the TEMP variable, and then click Edit.
      2. In the Variable value box, type %drive%\TEMP, and then click OK

        Note %drive% is the local drive where you created the folder in step 1.
      3. Repeat steps a and b for the TMP variable, if it exists.
    • Repeat the following steps for both the TEMP and the TMP System variables:
      1. In the System variables list, select the TEMP variable, and then click Edit.
      2. In the Variable value box, type %drive%\TEMP, and then click OK.

        Note %drive% is the local drive where you created the folder in step 1.
      3. Repeat steps a and b for the TMP variable, if it exists.
    • Click OK two times to close the System Properties dialog box.
    • Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
    • At the command prompt, type the following command to verify that the TEMP and the TMP environment values are equal to%drive%\TEMP:

      set t

      Note %drive% is the local drive where you created the folder in step 1.

    Hope that helps!!

    @ A@shish:

    As I mentioned in my first post, I've already:

    disabled UAC

    disabled Windows Firewall

    then:

    - i've installed liveupdate successfully, but this doesn't help me with SEP client installation problem

    - I've followed the link that talks about MSXML, I re-registered dll's, installed MSXML 6.0 sp1, with no luck

    @Brian81

    The full log is already posted in my first post

    @SebastianZ

    I'm trying to do a local installation, not a remote, I've already used "symhelp" for best practise and it says that is all ok for a local installation

    @Mithun Sanghavi

    I've tried to change TEMP location but this doesn't help, the error is the same:

    Property(C): VALIDATEFILESETNAME = C:\Temp\SEP_fileset.xml
    === Logging stopped: 2/18/2013 15:30:12 ===

    edit:

    I attach a screenshot of symhelp

    After several tests I've found a workaround/solution:

    - Install Symantec endpoint manager

    - Export an unmanaged client installation with server settings

    - Install the package

    - Remove Symantec endpoint manager

    I still didn't understand why installing only an unmanaged client without installing the whole manager, doesn't work even if it is supported

    anyway the solution above works

    cheers
