Windows 2003 Server R2 32bit Enterprise SP1 SQL Server 2005 Standard SP3 Altiris CMS 7.0.12 Deployment Solution 7.1.607 Hi, We have recently installed CMS 7.0 and DS 7.1. We have noticed that the ability to power up, restart and shutdown managed desktops falls into three types: a) Using motherboard API (ie Intel AMT) - this works fine using the Manage Power State and Redirection options b) The DS power control tasks - these work fine in DS tasks c) The power off and power on functions in the DS Actions menu - DO NOT WORK Whenever we try and use c) which correspond to the Power On and Power Off functions in the DS Actions menu (See attached image), we get the following error on all our desktops of varied hardware and OS including Windows XP and Windows 7: "Remote power management is not supported on hardware of selected computer" I have seen another similar thread but it has no solution that works: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/deployment-server-wake-lan-doesnt-work My questions are: - what hardware or software APIs does this function look for on the managed desktops ? - what configuration options are we missing on the CMS/DS server? Power on and Power Off button are only supported for iLo and RiLo hardware. This suport is provided by DS.
If you need to shutdown/WOL normal hardware machine then use Power Management tasks provided by NS.
