  • 1.  Does SEP 12.1 supports linux?

    Posted Feb 15, 2012 11:49 AM

What I've heard it that it doesn't and Symantec gives SAV for linux in SEP 12.1 DVD for linux machines.

I want to ask whether we can manage the clients installed on linux machines (ie pushing policies and updates from server) from SEP Manager, and how does licensing works as SAV is a different product than SEP.

Please also let me know if Mac machines are manageable from SEP console, like policies and updates.

    Thanks

...but Mac clients can be maanaged by the SEPM.  Note that while they can be managed, they do not obtain updates from teh SEPM.

Here's a handy FAQ on Mac and SEP:

    #EDIT#

As far as the below articles go, they seem to group SAV for Linux under the SEP Product heading.  In which case your Linux seats should be covered (license-wise) by the SEP licenses.

...I think the licensing reverts to the old trust basis, where there's no checking involved.  You just need to make sure you're covered.

Best speak to a Symantec employee for confirmation though

    Hi Mahendra,

Here is a helpful forum link:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sep-121-linux

Machines running SAV for Linux will not count against the SEP 12.1 licensed seats.

And I can confirm: SEP for Mac can be managed directly from the SEPM with policies, logs, etc.  It must download its updates from the Internet  LiveUpdate servers, though, or from an in-house LUA 2.x server.

Hope this helps!  Please do update this thread if there is anything more you need.

You can update the linux clients by configuring Liveupdate Administrator
