Do I need to constantly run Liveupdate to keep my protection up to date, or will Live Update run automatically?

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 is what I have

    Thank you!

It will automatically get updated based on on the settings you have applied for liveupdate schedules.

please refer below links if you are using LUA 2.X

    Hi Eric,

"Thumbs up" for the above advice.

Forum members may be able to provide some additional "best practice on updates" help, too, with a few more details.  Do you mean keeping the SEP 12.1 client up-to-date, or the SEPM (management component)?

If you have a SEPM, it will by default check for new updates every 4 hours from the Internet LiveUpdate servers.  That can be configured as to frequency and source.  The SEPM will then, by default, keep all its clients up-to-date according to the frequency of their heartbeat.  For networks with specific needs, there are additional ways to adjust all these settings: using GUPs and LUA 2.x server Distribution Centers, etc.

Hope this helps!  Feel free to add more details and I'm sure there will be no shortage of fellow admins who will be willing to share their experiences and recommendations.  &: )

    Hello,

There are lot of details which we need when you are a single line question. However, I would try my level best to answer you.

Do you have Symantec Endpoint Protection clients which are Managed or UnManaged?

Incase, if they are UnManaged, the Symantec Endpoint Protection clients have the Following:

    1) Liveupdate Button: Providing the Users a full control when to download the Definitions.

    2) By Default, the Liveupdate also runs itself automatically as shown below:

Incase, if they are Managed, the Symantec Endpoint Protection clients have the Following:

    1) Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Liveupdate Policy - This Policy is for SEPM to update itself.

    2) Symantec Endpoint Protection Client Liveupdate Policy -  This Policy decides on how you want the Liveupdate on the clients to be configured.

Once the above policies are set properly, the clients would update themselves.

Again, there is a Seperate Liveupdate Administrator Utility, which can update SEPM and SEP clients from a different machine altogether, for which Avkash has updated you above.

    Hope that helps!!
