The best way to get an answer to this question are from the Data Sheets of these Suites on their respective product pages:
Data Sheets for both include a list of capabilities, essentially listing the included solutions. The differences between these are driven by the aim of the Suite - SMS is more server oriented, while CMS is oriented to management of client machines.
Both Suites contain these solutions:
- Deployment
- Inventory
- Software Management
- Patch Management
- Real-Time Management
- IT Analytics
- Process Automation (this actually means Workflow)
In addition to the ones listed above, SMS contains:
- Virtual Machine Management
- Monitor
CMS does not include these two solutions that are in SMS, but has these:
- Application Virtualization
- pcAnywhere Remote Control
- Out of Band Management
- Symantec Endpoint Protection Integration
This is the big picture at solution level, there may be smaller differences. For example, if I remember correctly, SMS includes the Inventory Pack for Servers.
