Deployment Tab in NS

We've recently upgraded our DS to 6.9 by downloading the DS6.9 installation executable (not by going through the NS Solution Center.

Everything's dandy however, I noticed that the NS integration features are missing.

Namely the "Deploy and Migrate" folder under Configuration | Solution Settings | Deploy and Migrate, this folder is empty. It previously had a Deployment folder, Deployment Server Agent Configuration, Deployment Server AClient Configuration, etc. Also, the Deployment tab is missing as well. The Deployment Web Console works just fine, its just the tab in NS isn't available.

I think the obvious solution would be to install Deployment Solution from the Solution Center but its offering the latest version (we're on 6.9) and the effort involved in verifying our customizations would be too much with the other work we're doing.

Anyone know how to go about re-installing the NS integration piece for DS 6.9? Thanks in advance,

    Dave

So you upgraded the stand-alone DS right? Since the DS "view" is really just a scrape of the eXpress database, you need to upgrade both versions to the same level in order for it to sync properly. Then you have to run a new 'scrape' for all your data to be there.

Our DS and our NS are on the same machine but I upgraded the DS as though it was a stand-alone. So, not using the NS Solution Center.

I believe the Notification Server integration piece for Deployment Solution was uninstalled at one point. Thus no DS views/collections, etc in NS.

Now that I think about it, the question is how do you register a Deployment Server into a new Notification Server. The options I see in Solution Center all appear to involve installing Deployment Solution (the whole shebang), not just integrating an existing DS.

Does this make more sense? Thanks for the response,

    Dave

Yeah, ok. The DS Solution for NS must be installed as a solution, and then you deploy the NS agent and the DS sub agent to the Deployment Server, or in this case the same box. It then does a 'scrape' of the NS data (you specify the interval) and then the DS can be 'managed' within the NS.

That's too bad, seems like there should be some way to do this but no matter. Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

    Having the same problem here.

I have a folder Deploy and migrate, but this is empty.
I also did a "stanalone" upgrade of the Deployment server
this because the file on solution sam was corrupt in some way when i wanted to do the upgrade, had to go to the download page of Altiris to download the file that worked.

if anyone has a solution for this please let me know

    Kind regards
    Frank

The Deployment Server install on Solution Sam will only work for Deployment Server "Solution" integration piece Notification Server. The standalone Deployment Server application must be upgraded from the download file that you downloaded and applied.

So, if you want the deploy and migrate folder on NS, you will have to install the deployment server solution on Notification Server and configure it so it will pull your Deployment Server (standalone) data into Notification Server.

    Hi,

Maybe i didn't give enough info,

The deployment server is installed on the same server as the notification server.
When i did try to install deployment server via the notification he downloaded the file and started something, but than did nothing and the normal path where you would find the deployment files to upgrade/install the deployment solution where gone.
That is the reason that i tryed to download the file from solutionsam and tried to run it, but i got an error that the file was corrupt during unpacking.
the folder before the upgrade was fine, because i used it to deploy the Aclient if the Altiris agent was installed.

could you please explain how this is done or give the kb, because it is the first time i hear about pulling the deployment server data in the ns.

The Deployment Server and the Deployment Solution are two seperate pieces of software. The Deployment Server must be installed on a server based machine. This machine can be the Notification Server or another server machine.

To install the Deployment Solution, which is what allows you to perform Deployment Server task through NS, go to Configuration->Upgrade/Install Additional Solutions. Once the page loads click the AZ Solutions button. Finally click the Altiris Deployment Solution version 6.9.355 link to install the solution.

Once the solution is installed you will then have to install the Deployment Solution Server agent. This agent will provide a link for importing the information from yout DS database (eXpress) into your NS database (Altiris).

Remember if you are using Remote Desktop to connect to your server to perform the install you must be connected in a console session. The simplest way to do this is type mstsc /console from the run line.

Fantastic, thanks for the responses. I hadn't realized that Deployment Solution and Deployment Server were different and Deployment Solution was in fact, the "NS/DS Integration" piece I was looking for.

Thanks Tylor! One quick thing to note, with the advent of Windows XP SP3, Vista SP1, and Windows 2008 version of the MSTSC.exe utility requires the use of /admin in the place of the /console.

    Hi Guys

    Thx for the help.
Problem solved, with me the problem was that the package downloaded but then when he tried to install, the msi failed with following message

The installation of C:\WINDOWS\Installer\4221b6f8.msi is not permitted due to an error in software restriction policy processing. The object cannot be trusted.

    found a patch at microsoft

Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB925336)

Then clicked the installation again(after reboot) and everything installed correctly

Thanks again, without your help, I wouldn't have found the error

    Cheers
