Creating a Boot disk DVD

    Hello,

I'm new to this Ghost Suite Solution 2.5

I'm really doing baby steps at the moment especially when it comes to the Ghost Console it's quite complicated, anyway i wanted to make a standard bootdisk DVD with the Image file on it as well, i know you can do it. So I added the *.GHO file only when it asked about adding additional files because i'll need another DVD the other 2 files and thought i'll just put the file on the bootable dvd first. When i come to make it it says "an upexperted error has occurred. Please check that the target is not read only and that there is enough space on the disk"............ I'm doing it on our Windows 2008 Server and with a DVD-R Disk.

    Help??

    Cheers
    James

    James,

There were issues with that operation in the intial builds of Ghost Solution Suite 2.5. Have you ran all three LiveUpdates? Make sure the version in the Ghost Explorer (in Help > About) is 11.5.0.2165.

    Thank you,

    Randy

    Hello Randy,

Yeah i've already done all of the updates it can possible have so far before i started anything and the ghost Explorer is 11.5.0.2165.

I don't need to setup anything in the Ghost Console yet do I if i wanna just do a local ghost from a DVD?

    Thanks
    James

There is no configuration of the console necessary.

When you add the image through the boot wizard, are you creating a folder (by specifying a folder name)?

No im not creating any folder's i'm just browsing for the GHO file which is on another computer and adding it to additional files bit to include into the Boot package.

    Here's what i'm doing step by step;

    1) Click on standard Boot disk Package

    2) peer to peer options, I Ticked USB Support and LPT Support just incase

    3) didnt change anything at the next stage to do with the Program Location

    4) the Built in support for accessing external devices i just pressed next again

    5) I then chose CD/DVD ROM for Destination Drive anmd Selected the DVD Drive

    6) Next ,adding the GHO file in the additional files i want to include in the boot package

    7) Press next at the review bit which is the end before making the Disk then i get the error.

Might it be better to have the image on the server so it's local.

    Thanks
    James

    James,

It definitely would be better to have the image on the server during the creation. And to address what I was talking about with a folder, on your #6 above, the boot wizard will allow you to specify a folder in the "Additional files dialog" box in the space "Destination folder on media". I recommend using this to make a folder called Images on the media to add that to. Aside from that, your process looks good. I imagine moving the image local to the server and specifying a folder should resolve it.

    Good luck!

    Hi Randy,

Sorry i didnt seem to work, i put the Image on the D drive (Local Harddisk Partition) of the server and went throught the process again and no luck.

In the Adding Additional files for the folder i just typed "Images" first, added the GHO file then went on and got the error again............. I then tried putting "Images\Acer_290" in and adding the GHO file and again the same problem.

Before Step 1 there is another step that asks for the type of "PRE OS" which i chose PC-DOS, Dont know if that is related to the problem or not.

    Thanks
    James

    James,

I apologize for not asking about the PreOS... I have tested this thoroughly with Windows PE, and it should work just fine with that. Attempt that and let us know if that works!

    Thank you,

    Randy

I've noticed that if chose "Windows PE" (default) i can make a DVD with the GHO file no problem just can't do it using PC DOS or MS DOS but there extra options on the Windows PE like putting in a Username, Password and Domain and when i come to ghosting a computer i get a error saying something about compression error and it needs to do a integrity Check.............. Tried doing a check and still had the same problem, it's says it's corrupt but it's worked fine using our old Ghost 7.5.

    Thanks

    James,

The username/password page can be left blank. That's for drive mapping, and is not necessary. The WinPE Standard disk fulfills the roles of PC-DOS/MS-DOS Standard, Network and Drive Mapping Boot Packages. If the image is giving an integrity error, you may consider trying to recompile it with a different filename through the Ghost Explorer. Just open Ghost Explorer, then choose File > Open and select the image. Wait until it loads completely (progress bar at bottom of pane on right), then choose File > Compile. Make sure Span Image and Autoname Spans are checked, and choose a new name (without numbers or special characters). Then try adding that to a WinPE disk.

    Good luck!

Hi, Has the error with DVD and PC/MS DOS disk creation been fixed yet, we have the latest versions of GS 2.5.1.   PE creation is OK,  but we want maximum space for the image.

    Thanks
