Endpoint Protection

Would people who have worked with both of these software please tell me about the similarities and differences between SAV 10.x and SEP 11.x or 12.x, whichever is most current??

We are still on 10.x and will migrate to a newer version now that 10.x is EOL'd.

We have mostly XP workstations, a few 98 boxes, and Win2k3 servers, to which we will eventually add WS08/R2 servers.

 SEP 12.x is a version for Small Business which will support at the max 100 computer network.

SEP 11.x is enterprise edition that will support any number of computers in any company.

Its something like SAV CE ( corporate edition ) and SAV SMB ( Small business edition )

Neither SAV,SEP 11 or 12 will support 98 boxes. They were last supported by SAV 9.x which is already EOL like 98.

All SAV and SEP 11 and 12 support XP,2k3 and 2k8 boxes.

Additional comment:

Customer Care has nothing wherein I can make this inquiry...so I am writing here in the hope that someone can/will respond or redirect my inquiry appropriately or point me to something containing any sort of product comparison.

Basically so I know what to expect, what we are getting or not getting, etc.

I don't care about what OSes it supports etc., I need to know what's in 11.x that's not in 10.x or that 11.x does that 10.x does not do, etc. etc. , what to expect when installing/using it, etc.

SBE 12, is not limited to 100 users!!!!!

It's just marketed to companies under 100 users as the features within it are a stripped down and simplified version of SEP11.  Companies under 100 usrrs typically dont have full time IT staff, done need location awareness, replication, fault tolerance, device/app control...  They want simple and effective.  It can support over 1000 users as is.


That said, whatever you know of SAV, toss it out the window as SEP is completely different.  Where you only had AV and anti-spyware with SAV 10.

You now have that, with network based protection (Firewall and Intrusion Protection), device control, Application control, proactive threat protection, and more.. 

I would suggest you find the flash video's on the support site for SEP, and watch them.  There should be two.  One covering a migration from SAV to SEP, and one covering a SEP install and overview of features.  

Thank you, everyone...We will most likely install anew rather than migrating. This way we can just push or manually install the client as appropriate for the particular PC/notebook, as well as set up a dedicated small VM to run the app.
