think ive just answered my own question never spotted

MSI (s) (C4:3C) [15:06:10:700]: Product: Symantec Endpoint Protection -- Error 1309. Error reading from file: C:\TEMP\Clt-Inst\CommonAppData\Symc\Name\Version\Data\BASH\BASHOpts.bak.  System error 3.  Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

I would assume thats whats causing the problem?

Are you installing to machines that are using UAC?

    Hello,

You are correct and pinpointed to the Correct Error.

To resolve the issue please follow the steps below:

    1. Restart the systems.

    2. Create a MSI package from Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM)

Creating a managed .MSI package in Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH165483

    3. Deploy the package to the client.

    Hope that helps!!

    Jason,

No the PC from that log is a Windows XP machine so no UAC.

    forgot to mention that.

I tried to create the msi as instructed above and it seems to create the 64bit msi Install package but it doesnt create the 32bit, I then tried to create the single file .exe and again it created the 64bit file but didnt create the 32bit.

The machine im trying to install to is a 32bit machine.

Update I tried to install to a 64bit machine using the remote push which seemed to work perfectly fine, so it seems my problem is 32bit installer not being generated.

Anyone got any suggestions as to why its creating a 64bit install file but not 32bit, ive tried each of the different ways and everytime it creates a 64bit file but not 32bit?

Is your server 64 bit?  Thats the only reason I could see as why it would be trying, to by default create the 64 bit package.

You can also try to install as unmanaged and than convert. I know it defeats the purpose and would involve a lot of manipulation for many clients.

But until the problem is figured out, I would like that way.

Also, when you are creating your package, are you selecting 32 bit from the drop down menu at the top?

    Jason,

the server is 32bit, I dont get to choose between 32bit and 64bit when I select install packages the option I get is for Windows - Symantec Endpoint Protection - This selection includes WIN32bit & WIN64bit or MAC - Symantec Endpoint Protection

The Problem i have is I have 100clients in 3 offices across the UK and while i have remote control over all the PC's its.

This server only has one purpose - Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

im making progress I set it to download the client from a webpage instead of the SEPM Server and it starts the installation but now gets to Error 1309 Error reading from file C:\temp\Clt-Inst\Program Files\Symantec\Name\Version\Res\1033\Actares.dll

Ive had a look in the folder and there isnt even a 1033 folder so it looks like im missing a folder not just a file.

everytime I pass one problem I hit another.....im staying calm though.

    any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi Nizzyk99,

    This error might occur if

    1. The installation is being run from a Zipped file
    2. The file Actares.dll is missing or corrupt
    3. The installation is not able to write this file

    Workaround:

    1. Run the SEP installation (setup.exe) as administrator
    2. Use “Custom” settings
    3. Select only the “Core Files” for installation
    4. Upon completion of installation, go to add or remove programs and add the required features.

Note: Replacing the Actares.dll from a working machine and then registering it , can also help in resolving the issue in case of a corrupt or missing Actares.dll.

    Chetan,

I actually uninstalled and started from scratch again which seems to allow me to install 32bit clients using the client deployment but some of them arent showing in SEPM, being honest ive never had so many problems installin SEP using the client deployment.

Im going to install on a different server and see how i get on if not then ill log a support call.
