    Hi.

I downloaded a trail version of Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.1, but encountered issues with having Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

The installation for the protection manager see the OS as Windowx Xp Home Edition, symantecs own support tool says that it doesn't support Windows 7:

    Click for more ->
Details is not supported on Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (build 7601).
    Tests
Error OS is Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (build 7601)

It's only 6 licences that's currently planned for, still the protection manager would without a doubt ease management. Specially remote management.

Is there a solution around or should I ditch the protection manager and install 6 unmanaged clients? If it can be fixed without upgrading Windows 7 for over half the cost of 6 licences, then it would be great.

From what I read, all versions of Windows 7 should be supported. If it's an old installation file (the trailware), is it possible to get linked to a new one or recieve a link by mail?

    Hello,

You could install SEPM and SEP both on Windows 7 Home Premium. It is supported.

Check this Minimum System Requirements Document:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH163806

However, In your case, could you please provide us a screenshot of the issue.

Does this issue happen only on 1 machine or does this happen on all other machines as well??

Again, as of now, you can surely install SEP unmanaged on the machine.

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi Sanghavi.

    I'll upload two screenshots:

It should cover the minimum requirement and there should be over 400 gb left, so no space issue.

The protection manager was tried on another computer with Windows 7 home premium, with the same result. I'm not aware about the rest of the details from that computer, somehow, it see both systems as Xp Home Edition.

The first computer is new, one or two weeks old and fully updated.

And yes, the client works good. But not the Protection Manager still don't. It's a shop were people work with low computer experience. The best solution for them is the Protection Manager which I can check now and then if issues appear (or by mail notifications).

In worst case, I'll install the unmanaged clients. But the protection manager is preferred, if it can be installed. Seeing as I get the same response for both, can it be a signature issue (or whatever the identification for an OS is called) with the installation packet? And in that case, is there an alternative test version available? I tried with changing the compatibility mode as well, but no luck.

I think you are trying to install the version 12.0.x. It is not supported on Windows 7. You can check the version, in the file "versions.txt"

They're as new that they can get:

    SEP Client Version 12.1.671.4971
    SEPM Version 12.1.671.4971
    SIS Version 12.1.671.4971

The link you provided is the same as the trailware, which is where I got the software from.

It might be good to ask, if there's actually anyone who have succeeded to install SEPM Version 12.1 on windows home premium? Or if there have been a test done with a clean install? From what I see, it won't work.

If it should work, then perhaps there's a demand/need for another software along with it?

But as of what it looks like now, it can't even recognize what OS that's on the computer or rather computers.

    Hi Kgbn,

Can you please provide details about the language of the Windows OS?

Just as a general note: I would always recommend against the use of any "Home Edition" in an office setting.  These have very low hard-coded limits on the number of concurrent connections.  Communications failures are guaranteed in all but the smallest of offices.

    Many thanks,

    Mick

    Thanks for the help.

As the issue is solved, I'll head on towards installing the unmanaged clients instead of SEPM.
