Cannot access SEP Manager (12.1)

  • 1.  Cannot access SEP Manager (12.1)

    Posted Jun 11, 2012 10:37 AM

We upgraded one server from SEP 11.x to 12.1 and after the upgrade was over to the server and the clients we realised that we cannot longer access the SEP Manager Console

We get an error whenever we try to logon

We cannot access it through Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Web Access

We tried to reinstall the program, it went smoothly through the process but we are still not able to logon to the console.

Tried to reset password also - Not worked either ..

Any suggestions ? Except from formatting the Server (it's an Windows 2008) ?

Could you please post the scm server 0.log and catalina.out logs from the Tomcat/Logs folder.

    Hi ashton_har,

Formatting the server is the last option.

Go to services.msc, try to start Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager & Embedded database service (if applicable)

Monitor the mentioned services for 15-20 seconds, refresh the screen if any service stopped then pass on scm-server-0.log and catalina.out logs.

You will find them under C:\Program Files(or installed drive)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\logs

I could not understand that "We tried to reinstall the program, it went smoothly through the process but we are still not able to logon to the console"

You uninstalled SEPM? OR repaired upgraded SEPM?

    - The upgrade was from which 11 version to which 12 version?

    => See migration path

    - When you reinstalled, did you restore the db backup from the 11 version?

=> SEPM 11.x backup are not compatible with SEPM 12.x

I would suggest to remove the current installation and make sure there are no left over before running the new installation. After that, restore the communication with the existing clients following the solutions of this article http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH92556.

Try by running management server configuration wizard once.

we migrated to 12.1 from 11.0.7

SEPM was running smoothly for about a month with version 12 installed.

Migration from 11.0 RU7 to 12.1 RTM is not supported, however it is to 12.1 RU1 (correct me if I am wrong).

At first you explained that after the migration you were no longer able to login but now you are saying that the SEPM was actually running fine for a while. Could you please clarify this?

Yes it runned fine for 2 or 3 weeks (or even more). Didn't checked the console for a couple of weeks and we discovered that we can't access SEPM anymore ...

    p.s. We upgraded to 12.1 RU1

Never managed to find a solution, catalina.out always shown that we need to reconfigure, we tried many times with no result, so we uninstalled ane reinstalled SEPM in the server .

And old clients (except those with legacy Win 2000 running on them that have Client Package 11.x on them) could be added in the new manager only through adding the new sylink.xml using the drop tool

    Hi,

You should have pass on the logs to troubleshoot this issue further.
