    Hi folks,

On July 4, 2012, SAV 10.x and SCS 3.x reached End of Support Life (EOSL).  This includes ALL maintenance packs and patches.

We recommend you upgrade to the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection, which as of today is version 12.1 RU1 MP1.

There is no cost to upgrade for customers with a current maintenance contract; However you may find that additional or updated hardware is required – see System requirements document.

    Additional Reference materials:

    Frequently Asked Questions

What does End of Support Life (EOSL) mean for Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition (SAV CE) 10.x customers?

EOSL means that technical support will no longer be provided for SAV CE 10.x.  All support services, including without limitation, virus definition updates, bug fixes/patches and engineering modification, for SAV CE 10.x will end on the EOSL date.

Does EOSL apply even if the SAV CE customer has a current maintenance contract?

Yes.  EOSL applies to current maintenance contracts.

    When is the EOSL date?

SAV CE 10.x reaches EOSL on 4 July 2012.

What is the recommended upgrade path?

Customers of SAV CE 10.x should upgrade to Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1.  SEP 12.1 offers customers significantly stronger protection than SAV CE 10.x or competitive products in the market.  SEP 12.1 also runs faster and lighter than competitive products.

For additional SEP 12.1 details please visit the SEP 12.1 product page.

How much does the upgrade cost?

The upgrade to SEP 12.1 is free for SAV CE 10.x customers with a current maintenance contract.

What if I don’t have a current maintenance contract?

SAV CE 10.x customers without a current maintenance contract can purchase SEP 12.1 with a discounted version upgrade SKU.

Are any tools available to help with the upgrade?

Upgrade services are available through the Symantec Partner Community.  In addition to upgrade services from partners, Symantec offers a SAV Support Pagewhich is updated by Symantec Enterprise Support.

Is Technical Support available for upgrades conducted after the EOSL date?

    Yes.

Are there any options if I am unable to upgrade before the EOSL date?

Yes, for a fee, virus definitions and a Partial Support period can be made available for up to 12 months past the EOSL.  Please contact your Symantec account representative for more details.

    Hi Thomas sir,

I think , even though Symantec ending the Support to Symantec Antivirus (SAV) 10.x and Symantec Client Security (SCS) 3.x.

They can provide the limited knowledgebase resource to resolve customer queries since ultimately they are symantec customers from ling time and ther should be some importance to them.

As i dont think allthe symantec customers will upgrade their Antivrus from the old one to new one so as they had purchaed thw licence and trusting on our products we shoul give them some alternative option other then new upgrade since as per our new ver. they need to upgrade their system req, which might be not faesible to them.

consider it just my idea or suggestion.

    Thanks & Rgards

Why Limited ... In Depth Knowledge Base Articles are and will be available for SAV.

Product enf of Life had reached in 2010 and now its Technical Support END OF LIFE.

EOL doesn't mean product will stop working but we cannot guarantee or support if any issues are faced.

    Hi Kishorilal,

As Vikram stated, Support will end for the product, with no support provided or guaranteed. All Knowledgebase content will still remain available for our customers. Note that anyone running an old AV product such as SAV, is not getting the protection technologies that Endpoint Protection provides. SAV does not offer the FW, IPS, ADAC, and other technologies needed to fight off today's threats.

I hope SAV customers see the notice as a wake-up-call to upgrade to SEP ASAP.

    Greetings,

Symantec Security Response began receiving reports today of Scan Engine Version information being unavailable in the Symantec AntiVirus 10.x GUI or when viewing client information in the Symantec System Center after updating definitions to 20120515.017 and beyond.

    This issue is by design.

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.x is designed to display Scan Engine Version information. The Scan Engine version information that appears in the GUI and is passed to the Symantec System Center is the same and is retrieved by polling version number from the ECMSVR32.DLL file. This field is designed to accept property/version information up to X.X.X.255.

Beginning with definitions of 20120515.017, the version of that file is 121.1.0.291. This information cannot be parsed properly and the Scan Engine field remains blank.

This information is detailed in TECH189026.

    Thanks!

Definition updates usually cease on the End of Support Life date. In this case it is 7/4/12.

EOSL means that technical support will no longer be provided for SAV CE 10.x.  All support services, including without limitation, virus definition updates, bug fixes/patches and engineering modification, for SAV CE 10.x will end on the EOSL date.

    FURTHER SUPPORT OPTIONS

For a fee, a Partial Support period and an extension of the virus definitions can be made available for up to 12 months past the EOSL date. For more information, read the document How to request a virus definition extension for Symantec AntiVirus 10.x Corporate Edition beyond its End-of-Support-Life date.

    Hi,

I still have a lot of SAV 9 clients in the network. But I am glad that I was able to switch all SAV 8 last year. Huge companies are slooooow :-)

    Hi Christoph_A,

SAV 9 reached EOL a while back, I highly recommend you upgrade ASAP. The SAV 9 engine was not designed to protect from today's modern threats. Your systems are not getting the protecting that you need, you need a layered defense in this day and age. Please check out the latest Enterprise AV protection products at - http://www.symantec.com/theme.jsp?themeid=sep-family.

Latest virus definitions my client has received is 14-aug-2012. Does this mean Symantec will keep providing updated Virus Definitions? If so, when will it finally stop? Also, do the updated virus definitions indeed cover all newly discovered virus/worm threats, like the virus definitions of SEP, or are they different (in respect to the Virus signatures, not endpoint protection, IPS which is all not included in SAV)?

I really need some additional information on this, since I need to get people to migrate the last SAV10 to SEP11/12 as well. Now they just tell me the need is limited, since they are still getting the virus definitions.

    Hello,

The Current Virus definitions would protect you from all the new threats discovered.

Virus definitions are still available for the product.

However, as stated above the product in itself is End of Life and End of Support.

I could recommend you to Migrate the SEP 11.x OR SEP 12.1

    Mithun, Pete,

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question. I'm fully aware that the SAV10 should be migrated and I've been pushing the different departments worldwide to get them migrated. However, I also know that as of yet, Not all migrations are finalized yet, so I would like to know until what date Symantec actually stops providing new virus definitions for SAV10. This will provide me with more leverage to push the migrations forward.

    Thanks in advance!

    Kind regards, Vincent

    Hello,

Symantec AntiVirus 10.x Corporate Edition (SAV) will reach its scheduled End-of-Support-Life (EOSL) on July 4, 2012.  Virus definitions, maintenance updates, and technical support will no longer be available for this product.

Incase you need an extension to definitions, check these Articles below:

Scan Engine Version information is unavailable in Symantec AntiVirus 10.x as viewed in the Product GUI or Symantec System Center

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi Mithun,

Thanks again for taking the time to read and reply to my post. Without being blunt, harsh or disrespectful I know the official statement from Symantec is that all support stopped on the 4th of july 2012 and a license extension needs to be bought to receive further updates (up to 12 months after EOSL date).

However, as stated earlier, Symantec currently still provides updated virus definitions for SAV10 (latest release is 14th of august). This makes it more difficult for me to force some of our deparments to speed up the migration to SEP because they feel they are still protected. Most of our departments have already migrated to SEP, but a few departments try to postpone migration because of the impact it might have on the business (systems will need to be rebooted etc).

If I have a final date as to when Symantec actually stops providing update, this will give me more leverage to force the departments to migrate. Also, this will help me determine exactly the number of extended licenses we will need to buy.

My assumption currently is that Symantec will keep providing updated Virus Definitions until 12 months after EOSL because it's not possible to determine which user is entitled to extended support. Is this is correct assumption?

    Kind regards, Vincent

    Hello,

The Virus definitions are still available on the Symantec site for Manual download.

However, as far as I understand these definitions are not available after the EOSL date from Symantec Liveupdate server unless you make a request for the definitions extension.

Have you applied for Extension to the virus definitions?

How to request a virus definition extension for Symantec AntiVirus 10.x Corporate Edition beyond its End-of-Support-Life date

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO73168

Extensions will be available for 1, 3, 6, 9, or 12 month terms starting at the EOSL date.

However, Let me come back to you with a confirmation...!!

EDIT: I was correct above and There is no confirmed date set on when would the SAV 10 definitions would stop getting created. If the Extension is purchased for the term of 12 months term then it is assured you to receive the definitions for 12 months.

    Hope that helps!!

"Extension is purchased for the term of 12 months term then it is assured you to receive the definitions for 12 months."

For the record, I haven't purchased or requested any kind of extension and the dozen or so SAV 10.x clients I still have get new updates every day. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, just saying.
