  • 1.  App-V Application delayed start with SEP 12

    Posted Aug 03, 2012 12:13 PM

We have a virtualized application that pauses for ~3 minutes prior to completing its initialization. This behavior began after installing SEP 12.1 and continues after upgrading to SEP 12.1.1 MP1. Our other 10 virtualized applications do not appear to be effected.

Without SEP installed the application starts in ~20 seconds.

With SEP installed and the SymEFA64.sys driver disabled, the application starts in ~20 seconds.

Could some provide information or a link with information on this driver?

What functionality do we lose with this driver disabled?

    App: ERDAS IMAGINE 2011

    OS: Windows 7 x64 SP1

    App-V v4.6.0

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Bugcheck 9F (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE) references SYMEFA64.SYS
    Fix ID: 2636799
Symptom: The SEP client experiences a blue screen with bugcheck 9F (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE). The blue screen references faulting driver SYMEFA64.SYS.
Solution: The SymEFA64.sys driver was modified to prevent this crash

    Ashish,

Thanks for the quick response. Can you provide more details on how the driver is implemented and any thoughts on why it would be hanging the application?

    Thanks,

    Jim

The below article contains a bit more info on what the SymEFA drivers do, and instructions on adding a centralised exception for an application (option 2).

Note: While the article focusses on Download Insight, it states that the exception will apply to other technologies, including the Insight Lookup that SONAR is presumably performing on your slow app.
