• 1. Altiris Task Server does not see itself as the Task Server

    Posted Apr 12, 2012 11:28 AM

    Good day! I have an ever growing environment of Site Servers being setup. On one in particular it is failing to see itself as its own task server. The NS shows the service as being installed and on. I've reinstalled a couple times but to no avail. Here is a log sample of it failing:

    <event date='Apr 12 09:59:07' severity='4' hostName='ILVDC01' source='Client Task Agent' module='client task agent.dll' process='AeXNSAgent.exe' pid='832' thread='5788' tickCount='73097593' >
      <![CDATA[CTaskServerNetCommsConnection::RegisterWithServerList(): Registration with ilvdc01.vitas.com failed]]>
    </event>
    <event date='Apr 12 09:59:07' severity='2' hostName='ILVDC01' source='Client Task Agent' module='client task agent.dll' process='AeXNSAgent.exe' pid='832' thread='5788' tickCount='73097593' >
      <![CDATA[CTaskServerNetCommsConnection::Register(): CAtrsException exception, error = "Unable to connect to any of the known task servers (Will refresh list of available task servers.)", OS error = 2147549183, at line 1019
     re-throw at CTaskServerNetCommsConnection::GetServersAndRegister]]>

    Any ideas? Thank you.

    If you remove Task Services from that server can it's Task Agent register with another Task Server?

    Windows Firewall?

    Yes it can, and does. But it was registering with that Task Server all along instead of itself. No firewall is on the machine.

    Have you got the full IIS compatibilty stuff installed?

    Have you done the tweak for the App Pool:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO47804

    Is your ,NET 3.5 OK?

    Check permissions on the Task Server folders compared with a working Task Server.

    Did andykn101's suggestions resolve the issue?

    What if you manually assign the site server to itself in Site Settings as a manually assigned agent?

    H guys.

    Occured a similar problem with me.

    In NS show task server installed and in Altiris Agent of Site Server show plugin installed too, but when I checked task server "instances" in Site Server IIS, it not was created.

    In IIS must have ths instances:

    App Pools > DefaultAppPool > Altiris/ClientTaskServer

    Web Sites > Default Web Site > Altiris > Client Task Server

    Web Sites > Default Web Site > Altiris > Queue

    This instances to me not appeared, so I uninstall the task service and install again.

    I recommend you uninstall and install the task service manually in server.

    Follow the link to help you with procedure.
