After restarting the PC still remains at the previous version and says it needs to be restarted

  • 1.  After restarting the PC still remains at the previous version and says it needs to be restarted

I have seen this happen frequently with upgrades, if I go from an older version to a newer version, what happens is as follows.

I will see in the SEPM console that the PC needs to be restarted, I restart it, and it is still at the previous version and says it needs to be restarted. It's like Deja Vu. Sometimes it will tell me it needs to be restarted and it remains at the same version until I manually remove and re install it. It happens less and less now but I want it to not happen at all.

After you reboot, does the GUI show everything is OK?

Force it to check in to the SEPM after reboot to see what happens

    is it the case?

Symantec Endpoint Protection client fails to report reboot status to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager after upgrade to 12.1.2

    Fix ID: 2871345/3069464

Symptom: The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager console shows "Restarted Required" as "No" for clients that have not restarted after the upgrade to 12.1 RU2. The deployment status in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager console displays the message, "To provide complete protection Symantec Endpoint Protection requires this computer to restart." The Symantec Endpoint Protection user interface on the client also shows that a restart is needed.

Solution: Modified the upgrade process to send the latest opstate data to the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager server.

can you test one of the affectde machine to RU3.

    Could be a "cosmetic" issue.

What if you run a repair on the client from add/remove progs?

    Thumbs up to Pete_4u2002 advice.

Here is the link to check RU3  fix id: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH206828

It was a known issue and upgrade to the latest version of SEP can be a possible solution.

This has been a recurring issue even with earlier versions

Yes, that is what has happened, It is a lot less frequent now, but on some machines it happens and after a while it will slow things down to a snail's pc.

may be worth tryng to update one affected system and verify if the same message still appear.

    Hi,

The problem i have is it seems to upgrade the client from 11.0.6 the to 12.1.205.2105 but

    • the SEPM12.1.2 console continually says the machine requires a restart to complete the install
    • the machine has been rebooted more than once since deployment
    • the machine still seems to be connected and checking into the 11.0.6 console not the SEPM12
    • i have at least one machine that checks in fine but says it still needs a reboot
    • to make a machine work we have to uninstall 12.1.2 with serveral reboots and then manually reinstall

I have lodged a supoprt case for this.

    Cheers,

    Robin

You may be able to turnon SMC debugging as well to see what's going on
