Here is a utility for disk information in Windows PE environment. It provides information about number of disks and their properties like state, size, free space in Windows x86 and x64 preboot environment.

It should ideally work on all PE versions.
Which version of Windows PE are these? I have some new machines that will not boot on anything but WinPE 4.0 (Windows 8) due to some UEFI and USB 3.0 compatibility issues with earlier versions.
