Symantec Positioned as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms

Jan 04, 2013 06:56 PM

Symantec works hard to create security solutions that address the needs of our customers. We listen closely to them, incorporate their suggestions and help them tackle their challenges. As a result, Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 has been deployed on more than 9 million endpoints.  That’s significant validation that our product is working well for customers. But industry recognition makes us happy too. We work with many smart analysts at the most influential firms who provide us with wise counsel, tough critiques when necessary as well as honest accolades. To that end, I’m very pleased to share Gartner’s recent Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms.

Gartner, Inc. positioned Symantec as a leader in its 2013 Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms report on January 2, 2013; the research and subsequent report was authored by a team of distinguished Gartner analysts including: Peter Firstbrook, John Girard and Neil MacDonald. The Magic Quadrant positions vendors based on their ability to execute and completeness of vision.

According to the new report, Gartner estimates that by the year 2017 more than 50 percent of end-user devices – an increase of 20 percent from today -- will be restricted to running only those applications that have been pre-inspected for security and privacy risks; We feel this statistic underscores the critical importance that comprehensive endpoint protection technology plays as part of an ongoing security strategy.

Effective endpoint protection uses a variety of technologies and solutions. Symantec Endpoint Protection 12, for example, leverages Insight (reputation-based security) and SONAR (behavioral-based security), Network Threat Protection, Device and Application Control, along with traditional antivirus technologies to deliver powerful protection to our customers. Servers represent a special endpoint type with specific needs. Symantec addresses these as well with Symantec Critical System Protection which employs a combination of host-based intrusion detection (HIDS), intrusion prevention (HIPS), and least privilege access control, to help organizations proactively safeguard heterogeneous server environments and the information they contain. Both Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 and Symantec Critical System Protection are ideal for securing both physical and virtual environments.

Symantec encourages our customers, prospects and partners to review the latest research from Gartner and learn more about the best ways they can protect their environments and information from attacks.
