Well, to be fair, it only became a known issue AFTER they released a product version with some pretty poor QA. :(

May 14, 2013 01:16 AM

affected OS XP and 2003.

May 14, 2013 01:15 AM

Thanks Mithun to attach all the helpfull detail in a blog

hello John,

It's know issue in SEP 12.1.2 MP1

this is a known issue with XP/2003 clients and the SEP firewall. See the KBA here:

Exactly, my WIndows 7 clients are all OK, but not with the Win XP.

people complaining that they got system slowdown issue somehow.

May 10, 2013 01:47 PM

We're still aiming to get a version where the services don't stop randomly, leaving my client unmanageable. Things DO seem a bit better with this one.

May 10, 2013 01:45 PM

We moved forward because the tech we were working with said "Hey - you know there's a new version.... You should roll that in"
We rolled it in for one location and it seemed to work well. Then we expanded distribution and lo and behold - many of the XP machines started acting like they were walking through molasses. :(

Thanks Mithun Sanghavi for updates.

How important is it to update this latest Symantec updates? My Machines are working fine with SEP 12.1 RU2.

May 09, 2013 12:25 AM

Ditto. Handy to see that I'm not the only one having the slowness problem on XP 32 bit computers. Thanks Dragonspeed for highlighting that it is SMB traffic and with network threat protection turned on. I only have a handful of computers to downgrade - commiserations to you Dragonspeed with your 300.Highlights the need to test before release? (both on symantec's part AND IT dept part!)

May 08, 2013 09:18 AM

Yes, it would have been nice to know for me too :( Now I'm dealing with trying to downrev 300 XP machines. At least the W7 boxes are all happy. (Gotta see a silver lining in this SOMEHOW)

May 07, 2013 08:32 PM

Whoa... glad to know that before I install it on my clients workstations.

Thanks for the report mate !

May 07, 2013 02:48 PM

There's a bug in 12.1.2100.2093 that kills SMB traffic on 32bit XP (at least) clients if you have network threat protection turned on. We've had to roll back our 32bit systems to 12.1.2015.2015 Sure would be nice to be able to subscribe to a mail list that would notify you as soon as new versions were released.

May 07, 2013 01:55 AM

Yes please I do not know it until I browse or post in this forum.

May 07, 2013 01:55 AM

Sure that does make sense, when can I get the download from ?

May 01, 2013 09:39 AM

Is there any email distribution list available that I can sign up for to get notifications for new SEP releases the day they are released?  I get a few symantec emails currently but usually I receive them a few months after the latest SEP client has been released.  Thanks

May 01, 2013 04:37 AM

An we still waiting for the French release of the Client-Only Patch !

May 01, 2013 03:01 AM

Yes,If you want to upgrade sep client only

This patch only upgrades clients. If you need to upgrade your Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager to 12.1 RU2 MP1, you must download the complete update from File Connect. Once you have upgraded the manager to 12.1 RU2 MP1, you can also upgrade clients using the auto-upgrade mechanism built into the Manager Console.

May 01, 2013 02:53 AM

what is "Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 RU2 MP1 Client-only patches" does that means it is upgrade patch on the SEP client side only ?

Apr 23, 2013 03:51 AM

Thank you Mithun! This will definitely help me in comparing version 11 from the latest release. Will start testing this in my lab setup.yes

Apr 12, 2013 05:57 AM

Thank you Mithun, Cheers!!!!

Apr 12, 2013 04:50 AM

Good to hear that. Will try to download and install it on our test environment. smiley
