May 14, 2015 09:24 AM

Hello Everyone,

The Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.1.x product has reached End-of-life and is set to be replaced by the Hosted (or .Cloud) version of the product.

Note: This does NOT mean the customer needs to immediately upgrade their product. Customers will be able to renew their on-premises license and continue to use their SBE SEPM’s until 2018.

Please be aware of the official announcement in case you haven't received yet.

Hi Philip,

I have mentioned in the article that it does NOT mean the customer needs to immediately upgrade their product. Customers will be able to renew their on-premises license and continue to use their SBE SEPM’s until 2018.

But after SBE 12.1 RU5 (12.1.5337.5000) there isn't any plan release for Small Business Edition. SBE 12.1 RU5 doesn't support Windows 10 in that case customer will have to use SEP.cloud version only.

If customer doesn't have any requirement to support Windows 10 & not ready to migrate to SEP.cloud can still use existing version till 2018. After that he will have no other option that upgrade to SEP.cloud.

Hi Chetan,

A support article on the Symantec support site clearly states that it is possible to upgrade to either the cloud or on-premise version of Small Business Edition:

"On May 4th 2015 Symantec EOL’d Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.1 (SEP SBE 12.1). All existing customer licenses have been converted to SEP SBE (formerly known as SEP SBE 2013) on a 1:1 ratio. Customers can either choose to use the on premise or cloud version of SEP SBE both of which are subscription-based licenses. "

This appears to contradict your comments above. Can you please clarify what the correct position is for customers who want to use only the on-premise version of SBE?

Thanks,

   Philip

I believe it should work but unfortunately I am not in the position to provide you confirmation on the same. Please check with the re-seller/license team.

Anyways if they asked you to migrate SEP.cloud you can still use on premises version because through  SEP.cloud console we can download on premises version as well.
