Yeah, the status messages only appear on a page refresh so if you're casting votes in the background you won't see a message until you reload the page (which happens when you submit a reply to a post).

Nothing with the thumbs up on two different threads & then I got three "info" lines when I subsequently created a new reply to a post - all on unrelated discussions.

Hi Kevin,

You need to post something either before/after thumbing someone up/down. Even if you thumb them up/down, and you post in another post entirely, you're going to see what Marianne posted.

I've been getting that since yesterday :)

Thanks!

Correct - I'd like to see my own points when I earn - not the other user's points when I give him/her a vote up.

This is what just happened to me:

I posted a comment and at the same time gave JH a 'thumbs up'. Result:

Too much info.....

Apr 13, 2011 04:36 PM

Okay, I'm understanding:

The banners that pop up when you enter a blog post and say, "Congrats Marianne, you've earned XX points" are useful but the ones that pop up when you're voting or marking a solution (that award points to other users) are unnecessary and are sharing too much info, correct?

Apr 13, 2011 04:27 PM

Hi Kevin - we want to see our OWN points each time we earn, but as from today, when we click on 'thumbs up' for another user, it shows a banner like the one that I've posted above, showing that user's points (same with other users who give me a 'vote up' - it shows MY points at the top of their screen). That is what Mohawk Marvin did when he gave me a 'thumbs up'!

Kiran,

Can you please post your bug report to a new thread in the symantec-connect forum?

Thanks,
Kevin

If we don't put the user or the points on the message, what would you like displayed?

Thanks,
Kevin

Ah, it makes sense now.

Since the "notice" functionality comes standard in the code we'll need to have a developer modify the code to change this default behavior.

Thanks g_lee

couldn't agree more, and i have the same experience, i can't see what peoples points are on any of the pages except the vote results

Apr 13, 2011 12:29 PM

Kevin,

I don't think normal users (ie: non-admins) normally see a user's points when you go to their profile/dashboard - normally it only displays how long they've been a member, etc

... hence the sudden appearance of points totals for other users is slightly disconcerting :\

edit: mentioned here as well - https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/bug-user-not-me-earned-1-points

Apr 13, 2011 12:23 PM

So, I'm a bit confused by this request.

I can see any user's point totals by visiting their profile page (clicking on their username) or by checking the "dashboard" but you don't think we should be showing the same info in these status messages?

But thanks for the point!

Apr 13, 2011 06:22 AM

I couldnt help but test this, sorry! And fyi still exists as an issue

Apr 13, 2011 02:04 AM

Hi Kevin

Thanks for the updates - points are now showing after adding a post.

Only problem - it now shows a bit TOO much. When I give a 'Vote Up', I see that user's points:
