What to do when installing SEP 11.0 and see “Error 2318.File does not exist: C:\WINDOWS\inf\oem14.inf”

When installing SEP 11.0 gets error “Error 2318.File does not exist: C:\WINDOWS\inf\oem14.inf”

1. Cannot start Install SEP 11.0 on Windows XP Pro
2. Gets Message "Error 2318.File does not exist: C:\WINDOWS\inf\oem14.inf"
3. Corrupt or Missing C:\WINDOWS\inf\oem14.inf File Bad Harddisk Sector

Solution:
1. Checked the file at the specified location "C:\WINDOWS\inf\oem14.inf", File present at the location
            inf folder is hidden(You may have to allow Show Hidden)
            Tools > Folder Options > View Tab > Select Show Hidden Files and Folders
2. Checked Permission for the file and folder, have all sufficient Permissions
           Right click on inf folder, go to Properties and then Click on Security Tab
           Everyone Group was not present, Added Everyone



3. Tried to install SEP 11.0 again got the same error "Error 2318.File does not exist: C:\WINDOWS\inf\oem14.inf"
4. Tried to rename the oem14.inf file got error "Cyclic Redundancy Check"
5. Ran Check Disk to Fix Errors on the Disk
                  Right Click on C Drive > Go to Properties > Tools Tab
                  Click Check Now > Select Automatically fix file system errors > Click Start



Installed SEP 11.0 again and able to install successfully

How to Check Your Hard Disk for Errors
1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
2. At the command prompt, type chkdsk /f, and then press ENTER.
Note If you receive a message similar to the following
The type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive.
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
3. Press Y, press ENTER, and then restart your computer.
4. When Chkdsk finishes, close the command prompt.
5. When you reboot computer next time Checkdisk will run automatically

In my case the error is : Error ; 2381 Directory does not exist : C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\SEP\Drivers\SEP\0E00096F\00C8.105\x64\

 

Any idea how to fix this issue ?

Ensure that it is 'Run As Administrator' at the start itself so that halfway the setup does not run into troubled waters.

Oh so thats how you do it. I've been looking for answers in Google but i cant find one. I think it is because Windows has been officially banned by Google employees. So they don't share information anymore. Anyways, thank you so much.
