As part of the upgrade to SEPM 12.1 RU5, the SEPM converts all of the content from full definitions to delta definitions. This process is resource intensive and may take an extended period of time. After this process is completed, the SEPM will use significantly less disk space.

In a typical enterprise setup where 30 content revisions stored, the SEPM upgrade process must reduce 55GB of full content to under 2GB of delta content. This process requires significant resources to complete and is impacted by the performance of any available CPUs, CPU cores (physical/logical/hyperthreading), memory, and disks (I/O). On a server that performs multiple roles, stores larger numbers of content, or is otherwise resource constrained, this process may take a longer duration to complete.

Nov 06, 2015 04:04 PM

hey will SEP clients that is running winxp or win server 2003 with IE7 or IE8 be able to communicate with SEPM 12.1.6?

Aug 12, 2015 08:42 AM

Hello SK,

SEPM upgrade will be pretty quick, it should not take more than 30-40 minutes to complete. Mostly it happens within 15-20 minutes.

To upgrade 3000 clients it depends what approach you take.

If used push deployment wizardd, clients will start upgrade immediately once they received package.

If use Auto upgrade method it may take 2-3 days to roll out upgrade across the network though it can be configurable.

There are some methods available also, check this article: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO55064

Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) adds support for Windows 10 with 12.1.6 MP1.For Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1, a maintenance patch has been released on July 29, 201 For more details go through this blog: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/symantec-endpoint-protection-and-windows-10-compatibility

Aug 05, 2015 03:21 PM

Thanks very much for the quick response!  Cheers!

Aug 05, 2015 03:02 PM

Correct. 12.1.5 is not Win 10 compatible.

You need to get to 12.1.6 MP1 for compatability:

New fixes in Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.6 MP1a and 12.1.6 MP1

But...Symantec just released 12.1.6 MP1a to address a cert issue so you may as well go to that since it's the latest version.

Hi,

Sorry to bump and old thread.  I am currently running this at work (12.1.5337.5000).  I assume that thisis not Windows 10 compatible correct?

What version do I need to run in order to use SEP with Windows 10 x64 Enterprise?\

Thank you!

Hello,

Could you please specify whether SEPM has to download new SEP 12.1 RU 5 virus definitions?

If yes, any idea why on LUA 2.3.2.110 I can not find such definitions from the "My Symantec Products" menu?

Oct 27, 2014 08:10 AM

SEP 12.1 RU5 can be installed on Windows XP SP3 and Server 2003 SP2.

Hello

We need to use use winXP & win server2003 behind firewalls up to 2016.

Does Clienst 12.1.5000.5337 run on WinXP SP3 and Server 2003 SP2?

Thanks and Regards

Oct 27, 2014 07:05 AM

SEP 12.1.5000.5337 (RU5) 32bit & 64 bit packages along with MAC and Linux packages are delivered in this version.

It's not recommended though any SEP 11.x client can be managed by SEPM.

Endpoint Protection 11.x and Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (SBE) 12.0 are scheduled to reach End of Limited Support (EOLS) on 5 January 2015.

SEP 11.x is very close to End of Life (EOL), plan for an upgrade.

Refer this: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH211491
