How To Import Preboot Operating Systems Into Ghost Solution Suite 3 (Standard Tools Installation)

Sep 04, 2015 02:26 PM

Ghost Solution Suite 3 requires a preboot operating system to perform imaging tasks. Our default preboot operating system is WinPE 5.1. This tutorial will show you how to import this into Ghost Solution Suite 3. Please note that this is for a Ghost Standard Tools installation. If you chose to install the Ghost Console, there are separate instructions for that in a document to follow.

1. Download the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK) for Windows 8.1 Update. Install as directed. When asked for features to install, these two are the only ones we require:

2. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Ghost\bootwiz (or to the bootwiz folder in the location you chose to install to, if you chose an alternate install location). Double-click bootwiz.exe.

3. This window will launch. Select "WinPE 5.1 x86".

4. Click the radio button for "Pre-installed WAIK", then browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1. Click Next.

5. It will take a couple minutes to completely import this. After it completes, you will see the following screen. Click Finish.

6. The following pop-up will then appear. Click Cancel.

9. After that completes, click Finish. You are done.

Hello,

I am looking for instructions for Symantec Ghost Solution Suite  Console 3.1 - how to create images remotely etc. I am interested in bootable sector by sector images of a source computer.

More specifically, what needs to be installed before GSS Console 3.1, for example

1. Windows ADK

2. Is a PXE server necessary and what function does it fulfill

3. There are several videos available but none of them talks about the order in which to do things.

4. Additionally, I have installed a DAgent on a remote computer (client, which will  be a source). The client does get installed from the server computer. However, I can't execute any jobs after that. I keep getting "Sending Wake on LAN Signal ..."

I would appreciate a clear and detailed answer.

Thanks,

Apurva
