How to Enable the Automatically Recording in PCAnywhere

Jul 24, 2013 03:08 PM

When we use the PCAnywhere to connect remotely in a machine, there are many options that we can do into host connected, like send file, take a snapshot, record a video session, etc.

Each option you choose, you must click to activate the function. In this article, I am going to explain how to enable the host to record every session in a machine and save the recorded file in a path that you choose.

Firstly to active the automatically recording, navigate to path bellow in Windows Register:

X64: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Symantec\pcAnywhere\CurrentVersion\Host

X86: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\pcAnywhere\CurrentVersion\Host

Into the folder, there is a key called "DoSessRcd" with default value "0".

Changing this value to "1", every time that this host receive a PCAnywhere connection, it will record all the sessions without the person that was send the connection needing to click in option in PCAnywhere.

Into in the same register folder, there is another key called "SessRcdPath". This key is responsible for the path that will save the recording file. By default, this path is into PCAnywhere folder. The default value is "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\pcAnywhere\"

In my example, I changed the value of "DoSessRcd" key to 1 and "SessRcdPath" key to a network share, in this case, " \\SYTC-Guid\PCA Recording ".

*Don't put quotation marks ( " " ) in the path. You must put the path without quotation marks, even though there is spaces in the path.

In this screen, I connecting via PCAnywhere in a machine that I changed the key values.

My request was accepted by User and the session starts.

Into a network share, there is the PCAnywhere recording of this session.

Hi ChagGynell_12!

1 - You don't need click to stop button to finish the session recording. The PCA session recording will stop automatically when you finish the PCA session.

2 - I will research to development it and I will attach in my post to community when done. Basically you have to create a VBScript to check the values in Windows Register and update the values to a new value. Then you can deploy it via Policy.

Regards and thanks for your question!

Great Work! But how did the recording session ended? By clicking the stop button or it automatically save and stop upon ending the session?

Also, can you create a script for this to push in all client machines with pcAnywhere by the help of Altiris Client Management Suite?

Your response would be a great help to me. Thanks in advance!

JM
