How to create Out Of Office Locations Rule

Hello everybody,
Sometimes we want to give special Rules to laptop clients. We want block Flash Disk Drives in company but we want to give access him to outside. Therefore we need second location and second rule. Our scenario should be like this; If our laptop user in company sep client comminicate with Sep manager, If client is outside sep client cannot cominicate with Sep Manager. We'll create a rule for client cannot access to Sep Manager.
Here we go;
In the clients tab click "Add Location" button and there will start "Add Location Wizard"
Click Next.

Give a Location Name

Now give a condition. It's mean what must to happen for change Location.

  • IP Address Range
  • Subnet address and Subnet Mask
  • DNS Server
  • Client can resolve host name
  • Client can connect to managemet server
  • Network connection type.
We will choice "Client can connect to management server" Because our scenario is change location when client cannot connect to SEP Manager
Choice "Client can connet to management Server" and click Next.

The next window choice " Client cannot connect to the management server" that's why when user cannot access
Manager can change location. Click Next.

Than Location Wizard will Finish. Click Finish button.

There is a window for Out of Office Location create in our group.

Now we can see new location in Goup Policies tab. It will take same policyies from Default Group.

Now we can assign another Policy to Out of Office Location.

Now I have 2 locations in Test group. And the users in the test group if fail to connect to sep manager use out of office locations rule.
You can see in picture. there is no "application and device policy" in default policy but "out of office" rule have.

not that I would use this feature very often, but it seems like it would be very helpful and useful to alot of people.

Gotcha Fatih, good article, just if anyone is going to use the offsite/onsite policies be aware of what could throw a monkey wrench into your plans and setup your locations to avoid it.  A little extra planning and setup time can save the day if you have different types of policies for inside and outside...an 'outside' firewall being tossed up in the middle of the day can ruin your entire day....

Wouldn't you run the risk of activating your offsite policy with this if there were a network issue at a remote site, or if your SEPM server had issues for some reason?
